4 Bidders for Bulgaria's Heating Utilities

The Czech Republic's CEZ, Italy's Enel, Greece's Public Power Corporation, RAO "Unified Energy Systems" of Russia and the Greek Public Power Corporation submitted binding bids for acquiring 100% stake in three Bulgarian state-owned thermal power plants.
Austria's EVN, Germany's E.ON, Japan's Mitsui and France's Dalkia were also invited to submit final bids but dumped the deal in the final stage of their participation.
Three of the eleven major foreign energy companies, shortlisted in the tender for the coal-fired plants in Varna, Ruse, and Bobov Dol, quit the deal in the middle of April. The American company AES, Japanese J Power and UK International Power Group informed the Privatization Agency they do not plan to submit offers for the coal-fired plants in Varna, Ruse, and Bobov Dol.
The Italian company Enel was the only one to bid for all three pools.
Czech state-run utility company CEZ inked in the middle of November a deal to buy 67% in the most attractive Western Bulgaria power utility pool.
Russia's RAO company hitched the highest bid for acquiring the utility in the Black Sea city of Varna, a total of EUR 389,727 M. They are followed by CEZ ( EUR 192,044 M) and the Greek Public Power Corporation (EUR 131,632 M).
The Russian bidder submitted the highest price for Russe heating utility ( EUR 119,997 M), followed by CEZ (EUR 24,307 M) and Enel (EUR 4,813 M).
Earlier in the day over 1,000 coal miners from Western Bulgaria rallied in Sofia against the method of privatization of the Bobovdol Thermal Power Plant. |
