Bulgaria NATO Submarine Guard

Bulgaria has agreed to maintain a division of submarines to take on the security guard of the Black Sea as NATO member.
The country will boost its forces by another two small diesel submarines, the Chief of Army Staff Gen Nikola Kolev said on Tuesday.
The news came after several months ago it was reported that Bulgaria might be asked by the Alliance to withdraw its current Russia-made submarines from the military marine.
The Bulgarian submarines will be part of the Active Endeavour operation of NATO for reconnaissance, monitoring and security provision of ships, especially those carrying terrorist-sensitive loads across the Mediterranean Sea.
According to latest researches by the Alliance, the Black Sea has gained importance as part of the international rings of illegal drug, arms and human trafficking. |
